The term "hydroponic", comes from the greek words "hydro" meaning "water" and "ponos" meaning "labour". Basically growing plants in a nutrient water without soil. The technique of growing hydroponically is not a new way of growing, it has been documented back to the 1600's and some Egyptian hieroglyphs which would predate that.
